How to sing Better than Anyone Else - Version 3.0 - Volume 4

Today I have started yet another step on my journey being an excellent singer. That is what I strive for and that is my goal. And on this voyage I have Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy with me. 

Just saying; listen to the coming material from me and you will note the change. Still; I am just in the beginning steps. It is never too late to develop and living is a way to learn more. My focus is learning and I hope you have the same focus.

Recording vocals sick

Well... it is not as serious as it seems. I am having a cold right now and have troubles speaking. I have never before even trying to sing or record with a cold. But this time it came to my mind one thing I have known for a long time. As my vocal coach once said (and I have experienced that first hand from shows I have played; there other vocalists performed really well with not even being able to speak): "Even if you can not speak; with the right technique; you shall be able to sing". 

Firstly; before trying to record I took a lesson with warm-up earlier this week for two hours. And it worked fine. I realized my voice has grown and my technique has improved but still I have something to work on. My technique needs improvement and I realized I have been cheating with support. But on the other hand; when I apply what I have learned; it is really good.

So.. Now was the time to test this out. And today I get down to business and laid down some vocal tracks. And it was a blast. So relaxed and so full of power. I managed to record a full song without problem.

Celebration of the arrival and return

Today it is the first of Advent. This reminds us of celebrating Christmas and Jesus Christ. But actually the picture is bigger than it appears on the first glance. Let us find out!

According to the Wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advent it is:

Advent is a season observed as a time of expectant waiting and preperation BOTH for the celebration of the Nativity of Christ at Christmas and the return of Christ at the Second Coming.... The name was adopted from Latin adventus (coming, arrival), translating the Greek parousia, originally referring to the Second Coming.

So let us await the second coming of Jesus Christ AND celebrate his birth as well. And let us not argue about the fact that Jesus was not born in december (because he was probably not; it is easy to find out by checking the texts in the Bible)

Valley of death... again

In 2014 Daevidius released the album Valley of Death. It is hard to believe it is nine years since release. And when the time has come to release the upcoming album it will be ten years.

Maybe it can be seen as odd to re-record this song and put it last on the new EP but there are several reasons for this. One reason is to show how much I have developed. Another one is the theme of this song. It sits really well in this concept on this album. 

If you check out the lyrics you might notice it is Psalm 23 from the Bible. And this lyrics are more valid than ever before. The times we are living in are not peaceful at all and we all need a place to rest and be refilled with power. 

So this are a few reasons for recording this song again and in a new costume

Recording acoustic guitars

For the first time in the new studio I have been thinking about recording proper acoustic guitars. I have been learning about how to record; again with acoustic guitars and found a workshop with Warren Huart from Produce like a Pro. It was pretty straightforward and to the point. So I search my closets and I found a microphone stand I had used before. Sad to say it did not quite worked out. The stand was to worn out to work properly.

So what to do? I knew I had bought some stuff for plans to become a poddcaster or youtuber some time ago. I just used that stuff and used the clamp and attached it to the table. It looks kind of funny but it worked. And today I tried it out and it worked just fine recording with it. 

Never give up! 

There is always a solution!

The transformation of a song - from War to Love

 Maybe you have noted the change in the setlist of the coming next release from Daevidius. The title "War in my soul" has been replaced by "Circle of Love". So it seems like a theme of war has been replaced by something completly different. Strange, right?

First of all; it is the same music but the lyrics changed. Or most part of it. 

It started out as a attempt to find the darkest lyrics in the Psalms of the Bible. So along this path I found a new translation of the bible (The Message) and Psalm 31. And it is not at all dark. Combining different psalms with current bridge and the title has to change. 

You can say it is a journey from darkness to light in this song. It is never too late. Never give up. Never stop. Shout out to God and He will be there.

The essence of the song, old or new title, is the same. Let me cite Psalm 10:15:

"Break the arm of the wicked and the vile
Come O Father let me be your child"

Preperation stage - new strings

 

I have been working in the studio with new material, both for Daevidius and with other projects and bands. And I realized the sound of the strings were not that crisp and clear. So I decided to intonate and replace the old strings with new ones. In the days to come I will see if this will achieve a better sounding recording (Of course it will).

So; pedal to the metal; here we go!

New Studio routines with new templates

I have been thinking loads about who I can speed up the process. And today it was finally realized. Of course I have always have some kind of workflow but it seems to me like I have been putting in too much effort and made it to complicated. 

So what does the new workflow look like?

1. Production - In this phase I write, rewrite, arrange and foremost record

2. Mixing 

3. Mastering

I think this will assist me in getting more songs out faster.

New Studio Process

After recording for so many years (and most of it never released) I kind of restarted the process. Now; for the first time I have created a process with Stages divided into writing, recording musci, recording vocals, mixing and mastring. Of course I have had this kind of thinking earlier but not in this static kind of way.

KTVA Inspired going low

I have mentioned this before in the blogg. There is a vocal coach well known by vocalists and singers;

He inspired me to go low when I am going high. This might sound odd to those not singing but this is no secret to us singers. This means I will go low from this month, October 2023, and the months to come. My new heros and rolemodels are Johnny Cash, Nick Holmes (Paradise Lost) and many more. This will be really interesting to see how this works out.

Von Hinten

For a decade I have been involved as a bass player for the Party band Von Hinten. Today this came to an end. For a long while now I have been thinking about leaving and focus on other creative outcomes. There are no hard feelings; time is to precious for me and I can not no more find the time to interact in Von Hinten. I will always cherish the memories and all the fun we have hade together. I send them all my blessings. 

The work with Daevidius next step is still in progress.

Recording the new album from Daevidius

Yet again; this is not the first time around I am writing to you about this topic. But this time around it looks to me I have began the climb to higher ground. There have; as you might noted; some changes in the setlist and some songs have been rewritten. But now it seems like this is final. 

I have been praying a little more than earlier and I think God talked to me about altering the list and some lyrics. Still; there can be changes in the lyrics but the music can be really completed. Or maybe; by the way; the music can change but it will for certain be just the guitar parts. There are possibilities on the horizon.

So I went into the studio today I worked with the basics. So now the basics of the drums and the arrangement are in place. The progress is up and running.

New setlist for upcoming EP. Again...

Well I am not sure of which version this is. There had been a couple of them now. But after changing how I spend my time I think and believe this is the final one. So here it is:

Another path

All I do is not just for Daevidius. My creativity is proably to wide spread. To much time is not spent in focus on the right things. Is this not right? With that said; just today I sat down and prayed. A thought came in to my mind about thankful to Gid. So; I pick up my guitar and wrote this little acoustic piece namned 'Thank you for today'. This might turn into a new path of creativity. Let us pray it will be so!

Later this day I will continue to rewrite one of the songs for the Daevidius EP.

Stop the presses! Demos in progress

Today was the start-up for creating demos for the upncoming new album from Daevidius. It is still a long path to travel but at least; now it is in the making. At least the demo stage. And the songs are, in my opinion, kick-ass in the same style as always.

Reboot and restart and planning

This weekend I have decided to reboot and restart ALL. Or maybe not really.. Well... I will make a template and mockups for the rest of the year. Songs will be recorded as demos (with focus on the vocals), songs will be rewritten again. And through all this; I will take the time to watch Womens World Cup.

Neural part II + Tone Hunt

So what is happening right now in the camp? Well; I am setting up the Studio with new settings. My friend Rickard Gerthsson has created some IRs and showed he a while ago (28th of July) of how this work. We installed them and on wednesday 2nd of July my son Adam was in the Studio to test out the impulses. He was blown away and tried it out in his own studio later in last week. And even when added to his latest production he was blown away. The material he is working on will soon be released.

Today I download impulses from the site we also used. In the days to come I will try out some of these impulses and set the ground for the next release from Daevidius.

Neural

Just the other day one of my friends were over at the Studio. He is design his own impulses and showed me a couple of tricks. In the days to come I will try out Neural Amp with his sounds and some other sounds. This will be a blast.

3 years gone by...

It is hard to believe but it has been three years since the last release. So what is going on. Well; the intention from Daevidius is to release the next in line in this autumn. All the songs are written and is just to be recorded and produced. Due to other projects this release has not been in focus. Let us hope and pray God will help uss through this and release it this autumn.

In the Studio

Finally... again... I am back in my Studio again and have full focus on the songs and the producing. I have a lot in pipeline and not just Daevidius. I really hope and pray the outcome will be fantastic. And there are good grounds for hope and belief this time, maybe for the first time for a lot of years. Maybe this is at the break of dawn when the light will break through?

Well; yesterday I wrapped up volume 2 of Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy. And today I started the next phase or rather the next volume; Volume 3. It feels like now I will leave ground and reach for the sky for real. I have much hope for the next six months.

Today I finished volume 2 of Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy. The progress is like the waves. Sometimes it feels like nothing is changing for the better but I know this is like any other training. 

Still; I know I have just scratched the surface of the lake of knowledge. For sure; this is an exiting journey.

Last song for EP completed

Well, what can I say? Yet again all the songs for the EP is completed and finished written. This is not the first time I say this but still. This time it feels more a completed entity, it is really a EP containing six songs. And they fit together quite nice. Now; all I have to do is to start recording and after the completed process, release the EP. Time to climb the mountain.

Now it is final (I think...)! The new setlist is carved in stone. Only one song remain to be rewritten and then the recording can start or rather reboot.

Remodel the Studio Stage 1

Last week a friend to me come to visit. It was really an unplanned visit and at first I was not that pleased that he stopped by. But anyway; it turned out awesome. Just as he was leaving we talked about recording vocals and he once again said his opion about how everything was setup. This made me think outside my box and I got really good ideas about sound proofing. This paved the way for a total makeover of the place I live in!

So after two days the first stage in this endevour is completed. There are som minor details like building a song booth and adding another monitor. Hopefully this will be done shortly.

Well.... a long time back it seems now; the track list for the up and coming EP was set in stone. But ... well not anymore. I have decided to a few other songs in there instead for some of the gems I have been working with so far. And of course some minor changes to these new material will take place.

Stage 2 - Writing Vocal Lines Sessions

For the last week or so I have been focusing on writing vocallines. Not that much work has been completed yet but I really must say; It is fantastic to note the joy in this process. And this is the first time ever I am taking this approach. I have always been improvising this part but I now have a diffferent mindset. For most people it is not the melodies; it is the vocals that matter.

So let us be patient about the time this will take. I know it is there for the taking.

Stage 1 - Bass sessions completed for EP?

Well... This weekend I completed the recording of the bass for the demo stage of the new EP. Kind of but still not the whole truth. I have decided to might add some new bonus tracks and deleting or excluding some of the bonus tracks on the list thus far. The bonus material is not strong enough. And maybe some f the songs on the EP now will be bonustracks instead. We will see.

Back in the studio

Today the recording of bass parts started. For this year I have big plans of releasing many songs. And I must say; this time around it will sound better than ever before. I will be restrained regarding the information about this but I think you will be blown away of how good this is.
